Following an extensive search process, Pleasant Hill City Manager June Catalano announced the appointment of Scott Vermillion as Chief of Police of the Pleasant Hill Police Department.

Vermillion will replace former Chief Bryan Hill, who retired in November 2022.

Scott Vermillion has been in law enforcement for 25 years, beginning with the Calistoga Police Department in 1997, before accepting a position as a Police Officer with the Pleasant Hill Police Department in 2000. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2004 and later to the rank of Sergeant in 2008.

In September 2015, Chief Vermillion was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, during which time he served as both Operations Division Commander and Support Services Division Commander. In addition, he helped develop the City Emergency Preparedness Plan and facilitated Emergency Operation Center meetings and training events. As a Lieutenant, he was appointed to the Central County SWAT Team as Assistant Team Commander.

Over the course of his time in Pleasant Hill, Chief Vermillion served in many other capacities, including that of a patrol officer, defensive tactics instructor, field training officer, K9 program coordinator, and SWAT team leader.

Upon stepping into the position of Captain in April 2020, Chief Vermillion served as a second-in-command to Chief Bryan Hill and attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia, a highly competitive leadership program that accepts a limited number of applicants worldwide. When Chief Hill retired, Scott was appointed to serve as Interim Chief of Police.

Wow, very impressed with Pleasant Hill!!!!! The only local municipality to not cave and have a “woke” chief, no matter how qualified they are.

Congrats to Scott! He is well-qualified and an honest, likeable person, unlike some of the previous Chiefs.
