Bart is increasing their schedules in hopes of gaining more revenue. Why don’t they stop the fare jumpers and homeless free loaders. How long is going to take them to get more billions from the government?

Curious
Does anyone ever buy the flowers from the people who sell them at the freeway off ramps? They’ve been doing it for such a long time, walking by the cars at the stop lights and wanting to know if someone wants to buy some.

Congratulations to the City of Concord traffic engineers, who have decided to take away one lane of traffic on Concord Blvd. with their new striping plan. This is great news for the dozens of of bike riders who now have a wider bike lane, but horrible news for the thousands of vehicles dropping off kids at school or driving to work,. We now have a 3 mile traffic jam every morning. Sheesh…

Total Clusterf**k!!
Let’s inconvenience thousands of motorists for the sake of a mere few bicyclists! I rarely ever see ANY bicycles using all of that expanse of road anywhere in town or elsewhere. The tyranny of the minority strikes again.

1
FPN September 10, 2023 - 1:48 PM - 1:48 PM

I was thinking the same thing. Do they not know that bikes don’t need that much space. If anything they need more lanes not less. The way they marked the road is also confusing. The back road from Port Chicago to Shore Acres should also be open. It would relieve so much traffic. I don’t know why the closed it.

No congratulations, no high fives… not a single “way to go Doc!”
If I even gave a doggy drop I might feel slighted!
But I’m going to rise above all that, in fact I promise never to be first again – ever!
Perhaps I was never meant for recognition… but today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth…
I leave the field unchallenged… good luck to you all in your firsty endeavors.

Book report: The Godmakers, Frank Herbert, 1972. It apparently takes an exceptional amount of Psi to make or be an exceptional god. It also takes some training. This starts with the guy doing his job, then getting transferred, then getting sent to god school. It is entertaining even if a bit melodramatic at times.

Captain Bebops September 9, 2023 - 10:22 AM - 10:22 AM

I may have asked before but have you read “Warday”, a 1984 book by by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka? I read it back then. It’s about a couple of travelers going through the US after a nuclear war. California survived but turned into a totalitarian state. I think I’ll get it on Kindle and read it again.

It’s my 57th bday today … so happy birthday to me … feeling pretty good … considering my birth country has become a total failure in leadership and control of corporations who now pretty much control EVERYTHING … with no end in sight … and what makes it even more disheartening is that a significant portion of the citizenry is under what I feel is a cult-like trance … from years of social engineering and poisoning from the SAD (Standard American Diet) … what they have done to Maui is also on my mind … now EPA is clearing evidence as quickly as possible … reminiscent of the post-9/11 days … they should preserve this possible crime scene and congress and/or senate should launch full-scale investigation … but alas, we are no longer represented … therefore, I must suggest the following … stop paying taxes … stop consuming corporte products … get your plans together to live independent … solar, home gardening, … this style … the more people stay within the system, the quicker they will lose their _________ … fill in the blanks yourselves … my solution was to escape to Southeast Asia … I live in a magic kingdom … where the king cares for everybody … even outsiders … provided they are respectful and comtribute something to the kingdom.

Brats, eggs and fried potatoes with onion. Hate grits, hate sauerkraut.

I agree. I don’t care for sauerkraut, never had grits as far as I can remember, even though I lived in New Orleans for about 11/2 year.

Eagerly looking forward to houses being decorated for Halloween, the season is approaching.

7

Well Folks September 9, 2023 - 10:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Jeff,
Want to see great decorated houses come to the west side of Carson City. The governors mansion and all the historic homes in the area decorate to the nines. Other neighborhoods like the one I live in do a great job as well. In the 6 years I have been here nobody in my neighborhood as any decorations vandalized or stolen.
But a bit closer for you, I have friends that live on Powell Dr in Bay Point and she’s a Halloween junkie and they decorate to the nines. Worth a little drive for you

The Fearless Spectator September 9, 2023 - 1:09 PM - 1:09 PM

They used to do a Halloween ghost train ride from Carson City to Virginia City at night. Iv’e seen pictures and the train crew and passengers are all dressed up. Looks like great fun.

Jeff (the other one) September 9, 2023 - 7:26 PM - 7:26 PM

We did the Sac Halloween Train, cute thing for younger kids. Not sure if they are doing it still. Also used to do a Zombie Train, stopped I think in 2016. Never got to do that one, but looks like it would have been fun.

Well Folks September 10, 2023 - 9:21 AM - 9:21 AM

Fearless
The Ghost Train is still running. Last year it went from VC to Gold Hill because of weather.
But in December they have the Polar Express that runs from CC to VC and Santa is on that run. Great fun for children of all ages

Jeff (the other one) September 9, 2023 - 7:23 PM - 7:23 PM

Sounds awesome, not likely to drive out to Carson City, but should time present itself, certainly will keep in mind. Bay Point can do, and definitely cruise up and down Powell. Thanks WF!

Well Folks September 10, 2023 - 9:25 AM - 9:25 AM

Jeff
Evora to Driftwood, left on Driftwood then left and Steffa and a quick left on Powell. It’s about 2/3 up the streets on the left.

Thanks WF

It is very, very, long; repeatedly repetitive; and redundantly redundant.

I wrote to that effect on several questions; told them to look back at previous questions for the same answer…. (I think they will try to give me a phone call)

It makes you identify each person specifically as Female or Male…

I see that 66 California Albertson’s and Kroger’s have been sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers. Which stores involved have not yet been announced.
https://www.albertsonscompanies.com and scroll down for the announcement.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 9, 2023 - 5:04 PM - 5:04 PM

I don’t see any mention of Lucky stores… and I actually don’t know where any Albertson’s stores or Kroger’s are in Claycord territory……nope, looked it up….all California Albertson’s are in Southern CA.
There’s a Foods Co. in Pittsburg & Kroger owns those, but they are not mentioned in the story and I see no Kroger’s in Contra Costa.

Captain Bebops September 9, 2023 - 7:02 PM - 7:02 PM

Sorry about that but Abertson’s own the Safeway stores around here. Just go to the Safeway site and scroll down to the bottom and you will find the Albertson’s Companies link. At one time a few years ago the Safeway on Alhambra up by the high school in Martinez was rumored up for grabs and was told that both Trader Joe’s and Whole Earth were interested. But the company kept it probably got complains from the city council because that’s the only grocery close to downtown.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 10, 2023 - 10:10 AM - 10:10 AM

So I still don’t understand how any of this might affect any stores in Claycord… I’m not criticizing your post, I’m just trying to figure out how it will matter to us.

The Old Goat September 9, 2023 - 8:15 PM - 8:15 PM

Safeway is owned by Albertson’s, for many years.

Cowellian September 10, 2023 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

Disclaimer: I hate going into a Kroger store anymore and only do so if I can’t find something at Costco, Sam’s, Publix, Cash Saver, or Walmart.

In California, Lucky’s is owned by Save Mart, which is owned by a private equity firm.
Safeway is owned by Albertsons, which is owned by a different private equity firm, Cerebus Capital Management (the Hounds of Hades).
Lucky’s owns Ralph’s in Southern California and Quick Stops throughout the state.

Albertsons is the 2nd largest grocery chain in the US, behind Kroger. A merger will reduce competition nationwide, which means we all get higher prices.

Captain Bebops September 10, 2023 - 12:05 PM - 12:05 PM

It’s a divestiture not a merger. IOW, they are selling off some of the stores around the US including some in California to C&S So getting smaller probably to steer their titanic better. Whether any of those are in the Bay Area is undetermined yet.

Cowellian September 10, 2023 - 1:00 PM - 1:00 PM

You are correct about this being a divestiture, but the divestiture is just the first round of the Kroger/Albertsons merger.

Captain Bebops September 11, 2023 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

Mergers and acquisitions is the game of the business world. That’s what the company I worked at in the 90s were told. So we grew larger and larger and steering harder and harder.

This year’s Walnut Festival has been cancelled. The reasons stated are (1) not enough volunteers are available, and (2) competition from the Lafayette Art & Win Festival the same weekend. These explanations seem disingenuous.
My guess is the festival is just a little too rural for current inhabitants, or they are expecting violence, or both.
It’s a bit sad as multi-generations have enjoyed it as a family event. But, times change.

Tony September 11, 2023 - 8:21 PM - 8:21 PM

Demographics have changed. For example, Heather Farm on the weekends used to consist of local young people. Today, the Antioch and East Oakland folks come on the weekends for big BBQ birthday parties because of the central location, the midpoint between Oakland and Antioch. There’s now drug deals going on in the parking lot, youth playing loud music, parking anywhere they feel like, and getting into arguments with others. Pimps come to WC to recruit underage girls. The Walnut Festival will attract these outsiders who come to rob, steal, sell dope, and are most likely armed with ghost glocks with extended magazines. Its so sad that the outsiders have ruined it for the local people who just want to relax and have fun.
