Since I retired, I don’t drive as much as I use to, so I fill up once a month. I drive an old Corvette that gets 14 miles to the gallon city, and 25 miles highway. With a 20 gallon tank, I never let the car get below half full, so when I fill it up it usually costs about $65.00.
When I bought the car, gas was 36 cents a gallon.

I’m assuming you are running premium in that old Vette

Ricardoh October 13, 2022 - 1:56 PM - 1:56 PM

What year? I had a 56. Body was original but nothing else was. Had so many tickets I had to move out of state or start walking. When moving out of state didn’t help I traded it in on a new Rambler station wagon. Never had another speeding ticket since.

I'll gladly pay you on Tuesday for the Hamburgers I eat today October 13, 2022 - 3:16 PM - 3:16 PM

Ricardoh, you are a Rockstar!

Dawg October 13, 2022 - 3:28 PM - 3:28 PM

I bought it new in 1972. When I bought it, it had the LT-1 350 engine that got 12 miles to the gallon. A couple of years ago, I installed a 2009 Corvette engine. Along with other modifications, it puts out 459 HP and gets much better mileage on regular gas.

Simonpure October 13, 2022 - 6:04 PM - 6:04 PM

Very nice Dawg

Ricardoh October 13, 2022 - 8:54 PM - 8:54 PM

Gladly today is Tuesday.

Ricardoh October 13, 2022 - 9:02 PM - 9:02 PM

Dawg No tickets? I got tickets for stopping one foot into a crosswalk or just about every dumb thing you can imagine. I told one cop that he hates Corvettes he said no he hated Volkswagens. LA cops were tough back then
.

Dawg October 13, 2022 - 10:47 PM - 10:47 PM

Ricardoh, I haven’t had a ticket in years, but I’m also older now, and don’t drive with a lead foot too much anymore. I have to admit, when I’m on a long stretch of an open highway, and there’s not too many cars around, I will open her up. As for the cops, I’ve actually had a couple of Concord, and Pleasant Hill cops smile and nod, one Concord cop even gave me a thumbs up. I’ve built a few hot rods in my day, and the Vette is my favorite, I’m thinking of giving it to my granddaughter when she graduates from college. She is more responsible and level-headed than I am.

Ricardoh October 14, 2022 - 9:52 AM - 9:52 AM

Dawg Great gift I would put a governor on it.

Sandy G October 13, 2022 - 12:56 PM - 12:56 PM

About $50 every 6 weeks or so.
I drive a Prius and don’t drive much.

oldman October 13, 2022 - 1:11 PM - 1:11 PM

Too much

TTD October 13, 2022 - 1:42 PM - 1:42 PM

Last month we spent $700 on two cars.

Ricardoh October 13, 2022 - 1:50 PM - 1:50 PM

The amount of extra money spent on gas does not come close to the amount some have lost in the market. However gas prices hurts the average working person more. Joe by the way just yesterday closed off a huge natural gas area. The not too bright want to go after the Saudis when they should be going after Joe.

Original G October 13, 2022 - 1:54 PM - 1:54 PM

Drive mid 90s full size AMERICAN car V8 LT1 engine.
Get two questions at gas stations, ya wanna sell it and what kinda mileage ya get ?
Tell ’em NO and don’t know and DON’T care.

Working spent $125 (Pittsburg from Clayton),
retired maybe $60.

S October 13, 2022 - 2:22 PM - 2:22 PM

60 a month not counting road trips…….. then could easily go to 300+

Concordejet October 13, 2022 - 2:47 PM - 2:47 PM

Gas prices are so high that people are cutting the floors out of their cars and channelling their inner flintstones.

Air used to be free at the gas station and now it is $2. Do you know why?

Inflation.

Paul October 13, 2022 - 3:23 PM - 3:23 PM

I don’t drive much so I pay $30 every month. Gas price will go up! A friend just got back from vacation in Vietnam and he said there is a gas shortage there. If it is true, then I expect a worldwide ripple affect from opec+ cut in oil supply. We all can kiss ours retirement a goodbye

Chicken Little October 13, 2022 - 3:37 PM - 3:37 PM

I spend about $15-20 a week. Fortunately, I live pretty close to work, and I drive an economical car.

Bella October 13, 2022 - 3:41 PM - 3:41 PM

Ninety to $100 if that, never fill it up at these prices. Put in just over 1/2 a tank. When I worked, it was a 14 mile round trip to Concord Avenue across from Airport area.

Now it’s to my mom’s or daughter’s and store, not as much as I was though. I also find I’m getting tired of driving long distances and because I have to Saturday had to put more in. The self-discipline doesn’t feel wrong, so I must be doing something right. Cut back on gas and groceries.

Kentucky Derby October 13, 2022 - 4:30 PM - 4:30 PM

I’m not sure. I did get $40 dollars the other day (I don’t let it get too low) and she asked me if I wanted $140.00. Thanks for sharing…

nytemuvr October 14, 2022 - 9:31 AM - 9:31 AM

@Kentucky Derby…Be kind to your fuel pump, keep your tank full and put $40 in your car when it gets $40 low. Your fuel pump will last longer and in case of some emergency you have almost a full tank all the time.

Sara October 13, 2022 - 4:35 PM - 4:35 PM

My SUV is my only vehicle and I commute to Oakland for work,
I spend about $700 a month for gas. 🙁

Captain Bebops October 13, 2022 - 4:48 PM - 4:48 PM

~$50 every 3-4 months. Don’t need to drive far to get anything around here.

Exit 12A October 13, 2022 - 4:55 PM - 4:55 PM

.
Because of Joe Biden, Gov. Newsom, and the liberal loons’ war on US energy independence I now spend more than DOUBLE than when President Trump was in office.
.
$700 per month.

reekorizzo October 13, 2022 - 5:01 PM - 5:01 PM

about $700 a month………..live in Modesto, work in Fremont

this_that October 13, 2022 - 5:07 PM - 5:07 PM

As Jennifer Granholm, the energy secretary for the current administration, mentions that if you have an EV, gas prices would not be a problem for you. Your gas bill will be $0.

nytemuvr October 13, 2022 - 6:25 PM - 6:25 PM

About 30-35 gallons a month for a newer pickup, a 51 year old muscle car and a 25 year old HD. The latter two only get used now for late night “blasts from the past”.

nytemuvr October 13, 2022 - 9:57 PM - 9:57 PM

And not to forget….plus a couple of gallons for the lawnmower, weed wacker and my 2-stroke leaf blower with the expansion chamber…..

SamE October 14, 2022 - 4:46 AM - 4:46 AM

$650 a month for two drivers and two vehicles. About $150 a month in bridge tolls.

Happy Driver October 14, 2022 - 9:33 AM - 9:33 AM

Have not been to a gas station since 2016. Plug in over night at home, full in the morning. $20/month worth of electricity maybe? Solar on the house makes it less since we produce more in the year than we consume and per net-metering PG&E just makes you pay the balance yearly.

Tesla.com/model3 lease is $500/month, if you spend more than that in gas, you are doing something wrong.

dinkydau October 14, 2022 - 3:56 PM - 3:56 PM

I live in PH and work near the OAK airport. Spend about $50 every week on Regular Unleaded Gas and drive a 2017 Honda Accord.

Jojothecircusclown October 14, 2022 - 5:07 PM - 5:07 PM

Zero … have not driven a car since 2006 when the stupid VA staff at Loma Linda made a report to DMV claiming I was an unsafe driver … even though I had more than 1 million miles of safe driving under my belt and had taken multiple course in the military for driving overseas, anti-terror, etc etc … anywho …. getting that situation unf***** seemed next to impossible … so I just said to myself hmmmf!!! … screw it, I’ll just use my black Cadillacs from here on out. But I did buy a bad azz little electric scooter here in Vietnam … That sucker is built like a tank. Best 900 bucks I ever spent.
