The Martinez Refining Company, who earlier issued a statement regarding flaring at their refinery on Pacheco Blvd., is now investigating “white dust” on vehicles throughout the city, according to the company.

The following is from the Martinez Refining Company:

We have received calls from our neighbors who are reporting white dust on their cars. A Refinery Team Leader has taken samples from various locations, and we will have them tested by a lab to identify the substance(s). If you have white dust on your vehicle, please email MRC.CommunityRelations@pbfenergy.com. A photo(s) and an address will help us with our investigation. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we investigate.

All of downtown is blanketed. It would be simpler to email them if you DON’T have white dust on your car.

Because of wind direction, dust on cars in downtown Martinez wouldn’t likely be the refinery. It will be interesting to find out what the substance is as that should give a good indication.

Martinez is special in that their dust is a cleaner white than the gray dust on my vehicles.

According to what I can see (all of the floaters) on my security cam, it began around 9:20pm Thursday night and lasted for 3 hours.

We have it all over our property. It almost looks like soot from a fire. Are there any fires nearby?

I worked at the refinery for over 30 years. This very fine Gray colored dusting looks like catalyst from the cat cracker unit. The same unit has been having mechanical problems for the last few days.
