Flicks are still around?
Geez…. I haven’t had any of those since I was a kid going to the movies.
If I ever see them again I’d buy a tube.
I don’t even know what a Necco is.

Well Folks February 17, 2024 - 12:45 PM - 12:45 PM

Dr Jelly
Flicks can be found in “nostalgic” candy stores. There was one in Lafayette (not sure if it’s still there) and the same people had a store on the Oakland/Berkeley boarder. Sorry can’t think of the name. Also I found them at the old time candy store in Virginia City. Also during the holidays Cost Plus/World Market carries Flicks, Necco’s and chocolate Necco’s along with other “nostalgic” candies

Book report: The Dosadi Experiment, Frank Herbert, 1977. An unauthorized experiment using an entire planet. Two species, one of them human. A human agent of the ConSentiency must get past the barrier and find out just what the experiment actually is and maybe save or destroy the planet. Some of the people in this one has appeared in other of Herbert’s books so there is a light tie-in to them. But the story stands alone. Hope you like it.

Cowellian February 16, 2024 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

“You want a prediction about the weather? You’re asking the wrong Phil. I’m going to give you a prediction about this winter….. It’s gonna be cold, it’s gonna be grey and it’s going to last you for the rest of your lives!”

Boy, good thing they gutted their police department over those mean texts….

Dr. Jellyfinger February 23, 2024 - 7:14 AM - 7:14 AM

Gholly! What an embarrassing story for Ahntioch!

Guido February 17, 2024 - 11:27 AM - 11:27 AM

Is anyone else, living in Clayton or Concord, having problems with mice this year? I just saw one run across my kitchen floor this morning. Geez! Some of my friends have reported the same.

Pat Pomeroy February 17, 2024 - 12:54 PM - 12:54 PM

Yes. Wife saw one scurry on floor and then go under couch. I put trap behind couch that night and woke up to dead mouse in morning. It apparently got in from garage. Put traps in garage and caught a mouse a day for the next 3 days until I found the opening they were getting in from. Took an S.O.S. Steel wool pad and plugged up the opening. Left traps in garage and check everyday but haven’t had a mouse since.

Dawg February 17, 2024 - 3:13 PM - 3:13 PM

Get a cat, and the mice will pack up and leave.

THE BLACK KNIGHT February 17, 2024 - 8:26 PM - 8:26 PM

GUIDO,
.
Concord has had a rat infestation for years, but that infestation exploded 7-9 years ago and hasn’t slowed down since. In the last 10 days I’ve caught several young rats that would be the size of a mouse. If you use poison, be sure to get rat poison and not mouse poison.

Dr. Jellyfinger February 19, 2024 - 7:35 AM - 7:35 AM

If a pet eats a poisoned rat better get it to the Vet. If any other wildlife ( birds of prey, raccoon, etc.) eats a poisoned rat, then they could die too from secondary poisoning.
I do not favor poison nor do I appreciate dead, rotting rats in my house or on property.
Use traps or a pellet rifle.

+1 Jelly. 👊

Dr. Jellyfinger February 23, 2024 - 7:28 AM - 7:28 AM

Hard to tell if more people are being pro-poison or just pro-rat, but there is a 3rd solution… use a Catch’emAlive Trap.
Those are great because they don’t harm the animal and if you catch the wrong species you can just set it free…. and if you do catch a rat all you have to do is toss the whole trap into a big bucket of water until the rat drowns.
It isn’t as fast as a snap trap but who cares ? It’s a rat. I’ll stand there and watch the little bubbles come up, no problem.
If you’re one of those namby pambies who can’t even step on a bug you can just drive the rodent 10 miles out into the woods and let it go… sing “Born Free” then wipe away your tears of joy and go home.

Atticus Thraxx February 23, 2024 - 8:39 PM - 8:39 PM

Bubba, I of all people can’t speak to what people like or dislike. Clearly. But when I can find a less cruel way to deal with a problem, that’s usually my path. Namby pamby maybe, but damn I sleep well. 🙂

v February 17, 2024 - 2:00 PM - 2:00 PM

CHP is biting crime in Oakland, meanwhile, Concord, Antioch, PHill, etc. are getting hit.
& the dope fiends ain’t gettin their dope, takin it out on us law abiders….😤💩🌅

Givengold February 18, 2024 - 9:27 PM - 9:27 PM

Its much more than dope fiends. These are organized gangs.

Original G February 18, 2024 - 2:20 PM - 2:20 PM

Found this on one of websites I visit daily.
Gotts ta have humor in your life.

Heating up water for coffee, moved electric kettle on shelf and power light blinks out.
That should NOT happen . . . . .
Reached up to make sure plug was plugged all the way into receptacle, both plug and cord were warm !
Tried plug in and out of receptacle a few times, very little resistance going in and pulls out real easy.
Receptacle is getting changed out tomorrow.

Dr. Jellyfinger February 19, 2024 - 6:41 PM - 6:41 PM

Reminds me of why I divorced my first wife.

Atticus Thraxx February 23, 2024 - 8:43 PM - 8:43 PM

I had one who insisted on baking during heat waves. Had to let her go after her third bad annual performance review. Best money I ever spent.

Huskerfan February 19, 2024 - 11:45 AM - 11:45 AM

I noticed they were putting up a new Concord Sign and planting new plants in the meadian on Willow Pass Rd when you come off of Hwy 4. I bet a lot of pot holes on the streets could have been filled with the money it cost for the project. the City of Concord needs to look at priorities.

Dr. Jellyfinger February 19, 2024 - 6:39 PM - 6:39 PM

Do any of you ever say “Thank you” to Alexa?
I do it just out of habit… she has some surprising responses from time to time.

Atticus Thraxx February 20, 2024 - 8:34 PM - 8:34 PM

I do too. There may be a day of judgment I want to be on the right side of, and anyway practicing good manners is its own thing. This site barely load’s on my old iPad what from all the bloatware.

Dr. Jellyfinger February 23, 2024 - 4:47 PM - 4:47 PM

I’m not worried about judgement day, but there are some really incredible lifelike fully functional female robots being built these days (especially in Japan) and when I eventually decide to buy one I want Alexa to provide me a good reference.

Atticus Thraxx February 23, 2024 - 8:41 PM - 8:41 PM

Jelly, You blaze a frontier I don’t have the courage to face. Or the batteries. 🙂
