The editor of The Pioneer wrote an editorial about Clayton’s city council and put it on the front page. (I’m wondering why the front page instead of the editorial page). This appears to be a hit piece on Councilmember, Jeff Wan, and a “small” group of townspeople that the editor called an “army”. (The editor needs an editor….small army?) And the letters to the editor were from the same players spewing the same hateful, divisive language (anti-establishment bull$(&t). The city manager (Bret with one t, whom all these players seem to love but can’t spell his name correctly) recently submitted his resignation at the same time as Clayton’s incorporation celebration, which was pretty rotten timing and deliberate on his part. But somehow this is the fault of Mr. Wan and his “small army”. In a nutshell, some Clayton folks aren’t getting their way, they’re blaming Mr. Wan, and now want an investigation into the city council. This article is garbage, which is exactly what this paper is meant for, if anyone needs any linings.

All 401k withdrawals are taxed as income for both state and federal taxes. Take it out before age 59.5 and you get hit with a 10% penalty along with the income tax. Certain withdrawals like first time home purchase or disability eliminate the penalty but not the tax.
You can borrow against your 401k. You are allowed to carry one loan at a time. No tax or penalty on the withdrawal but you must repay the loan and you are paying interest to the lender. The loan must be repaid separately from your normal 401k contributions (out of pocket). If you don’t repay the loan in 5 yrs, then you owe taxes and interest on the withdrawn $ starting on the day you took the withdrawal. They add penalties (10% for the early withdrawal) + penalties on the tax you should have paid. By the way, these penalties have been accruing for the past 5 yrs.
You have also lost any growth that would have happened had you stayed invested.

I’m surprised you came up with Rule 55 and not Rule 72t (which allow anybody to take $ out of retirement plans, at any age, without paying a penalty, under certain conditions.).
The key word in my post was “Certain”, and was meant to show the chat board that there are ways to get $ out without the penalty. Not show the whole list. I’m thinking JWB is the only reader too thick to understand this.

He would increase the tariff on that. Besides the lack of tariff on those cars, our auto industry is in trouble, too much focus on electric cars that the majority of the people do not want or can’t afford, and our grid can’t support. What do you think would happen when our oil industries are destroyed because some politicians want to go green and get rid of oil and gas. Where do those electric car batteries come from–China! Another cannabis related murder in Pleasant Hill, two people are now dead, according to a story in this issue of Claycord There also was a murder in Martinez linked to one of these Cannabis outlets a few months back. Also, a police officer was murdered in Oakland a month ago in a robbery that was connected to these proliferating cannabis outlets. These Cannabis stores attract criminals; why has the City of Concord and the council fast tracked the opening of these stores in Concord? I recall the former Concord PD chief was a big backer of cannabis stores coming to Concord. Our current PD Chief is completely silent on cannabis stores, and the crime they bring to the community. This view people have that cannabis is harmless is not correct. I can count 10 guys I went to high school, now dead, due to drug OD’s – they all started on cannabis. Nor is this view that cannabis stores don’t cause crime correct either. How many murders or police related shootings connected to these stores have to happen before city officials conclude “hey, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea to open these cannabis stores in in our county”. In Concord, as many know, almost the entire city budget goes the the PD. Including now, apparently, the tax revenue of these cannabis stores. So the Concord PD, amazingly, has gone into the drug dealing business! That’s a disgrace. Concord PD does not need the money, let me tell you, the PD is Concord is so overfunded PD bigwigs have to dream up ways to spend the largess. I think the public safety issues these un-needed cannabis outlets belongs on the agenda of our council. I also think the PD department silence on the safety of these stores is a disgrace. How many more murders and killings have to happen before the police tells us that these stores are unsafe to have in the community?
