Here’s your first look of what Alcatraz could look like if it’s reopened. A towering skyscraper in the middle of the San Francisco Bay to house the worst of the worst.
As we previously reported, President Donald Trump announced he is directing federal authorities to reopen the famous prison at Alcatraz Island off the coast of San Francisco that has been shuttered for more than 60 years. Trump, posting on the social media platform he founded, Truth Social, said he is “directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.”
U.S. Penitentiary Alcatraz closed in 1963 after opening 29 years earlier on the island in San Francisco Bay. Known as “The Rock,” and made famous to future generations by a 1996 movie with the same name, some of the famous criminals of their time like Al Capone were housed there during the prison’s operation. After its closure and a period of occupation by American Indians, Alcatraz has since turned into a tourist attraction with more than a million visitors a year to the public museum about the history of the island and its prison, according to the National Park Service. Trump did not get into specifics in his social media post about how and when Alcatraz can host prisoners again rather than tourists, but said it “will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE.” The Federal Bureau of Prisons, one of the agencies Trump said he is directing to reopen Alcatraz, notes on its website that the closure 60-plus years ago was because of high costs. Alcatraz’s daily costs were nearly three times as much as any other federal prison because of the necessity to ship everything there by boat, including nearly a million gallons of water barged to the island each week, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
Now that would be a landmark!
As a young man, Trump studied Carl Jung. And I think the president has a point about the symbolism of Alcatraz. The prison would be one of the most prominent buildings in an area known for lawlessness and anarchy. If its menacing presence cut down on crime, would it be worth the extra cost?
Alcatraz prison has always been a big ugly pile of dung right in the middle of the bay and now we’re going to make it even bigger?
I don’t think the President is serious…. just throwing more birdseed to the press pigeons to keep them busy.
Revenge isn’t leadership
and trolling isn’t governance.
And that will never be built.
Why are you complaining about Biden in your comment?
This is the dumbest idea he’s had yet… And I used to be a fan.
I hope he got Bobby Kennedy Jr.’s advice on this as his father closed the Prison in 1963 when he was the Attorney General for his brother President JFK.
I mean it would be the new Trump tower and could house him…..
on a serious note, no thank you. It would cost insane amounts to dismantle the landmark and create a full proof prison that is inescapable. Like concrete, thick metal (like several several feet worth) and more concrete. And electrocution style fences that go up insanely high. Us, the tax payers, would be sought for the cost with tax hikes. Over all, he’s just seeking attention as always.
It’s called a “Transient Village”.
This is what Bass and Newsom have in mind for Pacific Palisades.
I have serious doubts about the feasibility of such a structure.
On the other hand, what a wonderful tourist attraction!
It already is a wonderful tourist attraction.
Oh man a whole prison! A chicken in every pot, 2 dolls to every child, and one whole prison. America is made great again. Again.
The Democrat party should change their name to the ‘Blame, Lack of Accountability and I’m a Victim Party’.
They could make some money on this deal. They could make the upper floors into Box Seats and sell them for Fleet Week, etc. Can you imaging watching the Blue Angles show from your Penthouse room with the Golden Gate Bridge in the back ground. Life couldn’t be better!
Loving how triggered the entitled little crybabies are about this. Master level.
The “I thought this was a news site” and the “you shouldn’t be posting this” people who’s names I’ve never see come crawling out of the woodwork…man that’s just great stuff right there.
It’s cheaper to build a Super-Max than rehabilitate Alcatraz.
Logistics alone makes this Fiscally irredeemable.
Spitball the costs.
Engineering
Demolition of existing structures
Water waste
Fresh water
Power
Material
Labor
Staff housing
Ect…..
He can build in Kansas for 20% of the costs to build on an island
Once again President Trump dominates a news cycle.
The mere suggestion likely spiked BP of frisco liberals,
where dogs have to watch where they walk, up 10 points.
Ability to push liberal’s buttons, . . . . . . Lovin’ it ! ! !
Trump knows he can say any silly ridiculous thing and the liberal democrats, and their media will go crazy over it. They will never learn. Very funny!
Just another poker playing move (bluff) by Trump. He must laugh every time he thinks of it and that such a thing would be built there.
Or is Claycord just a representation of what the community wants and/or believes?
Obviously this article was AI generared … any fool could see that. I personally find it funny that so many people are triggered by an AI generated image. Yep, Trump suggested opening Alcatraz, why not … Sometimes you have to float an idea to see if it is sustainable or not feasible. To us in California, it is not feasible but man o man has it stirred up the left wing crowd. The only surprise to me is that HairGel Newscum has not publically responded to it but maybe he is smarter than the average left winger.
He has already publicly responded to it.
I had not seen it, now I have; I don’t feel like I missed much.
i do appreciate you telling me that he had though!
Yeah, we post something Trump said (we didn’t make it up), about a local landmark, and everyone loses their mind. Fun times.
Just like Whatever.
If it wasn’t fun, I wouldn’t still be here.
This is just noise and a “shiny new thing” to look at and freak out over… actions speak louder than words. This will never happen. The end.

Agree …never be built…This was just another ploy to keep the spotlight on him….he’s a narcist
Presumably you mean narcissist? As opposed to every other politician, I suppose?
worst of the worst do not deserve the view. One earthquake and it will take them all out.
