Foothill Middle School in Walnut Creek, which is part of the Mount Diablo Unified School District, was forced to close their cafeteria on September 29 due to a cockroach infestation, according to the Contra Costa County Department of Environmental Health.

Health Inspectors say they found the following during their inspection:

  • Multiple live and dead cockroaches at various life stages were observed in facility.
  • 6 live and 4 dead cockroaches at various life stages observed on glue board located on floor right of the walk-in refrigerator.
  • 15 dead cockroaches at various life stages on glue board located on floor under the kitchen hand sink.
  • 2 egg casings and 2 dead cockroaches observed inside wall behind metal door and 1 dead juvenile cockroach observed on glue board on floor below the metal door located inside kitchen left of the serving line.
  • Employee stated that facility receives routine pest control services from a licensed pest control operator. Most current pest control report on file at facility is dated 9/22/21. Report indicates that live cockroaches were observed in the kitchen and in the office attached to the kitchen.

The health department also said “Employees responsible for checking insect monitoring glue boards in the kitchen did not know that a licensed pest control operator must be contacted to service facility when cockroaches are observed on the glue boards.”

The cafeteria has since been cleaned, re-inspected and reopened. A “rodent harborage area” outside the back door has also been cleaned-up, the health department stated in their report.

Doesn’t surprise me.

I’d love to say something nice and/or encouraging about MDUSD.

Search as I might, I simply cannot.

What do you expect when schools are shut down for extended periods.

.
What will the District superintendent say is the problem?
.
Answer: A lack of funding
.
How about enforcing existing cleanliness standards instead of throwing more money at the problem?
.
Employee standards are never the problem, right?…. Riiiiiiigggght.

The problem is they can’t find a roach guy who has been vaccinated.

So Newsolini-with all this extra funding from the never ending printing presses of the US treasury play money-why not use these funds for righteous items instead of giving away freebies to garner votes for yourself and your croonies and illegas and those who do not want to work when there are many many jobs out there?

Answer me that! But as usual it will double speak from those in power.

There are rats and cockroaches at every school. It’s been like that for years and years.

Anon is correct. I am a witness. I also set out mouse traps in my classroom occasionally to catch those cute little mice. Where you have children, you have food. Mother Nature takes advantage of it all. Peace friends.

The important question here is, were the roaches wearing masks?

Oh how freaking gross! And my daughter goes there!!! And no email from Foothill saying this either. Go figure. 🙄

I understand that the cockroaches were not wearing masks, adding insult to injury.

The rats were so big that the principal was riding one.

I was wondering where the teachers union was having it’s meetups lately.

It’s insulting to insects and rodents to be referenced in the same sentence with liberal teachers and school administrators.
