Bill To Require All Workers In California Get COVID Vaccine Withdrawn From State Legislature

A bill that would have required all California workers to prove they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 was withdrawn from the state legislature just before its first committee hearing, one of the bill’s authors said Tuesday.

Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks, D-Oakland, said the authors of Assembly Bill 1993 decided to withdraw it from consideration in light of the state’s sharp decline in COVID cases over the last two months.

The bill would have required all employees and contractors working in the state to prove that they were vaccinated against the virus or demonstrate a valid exemption by Jan. 1, 2023.

Wicks introduced the bill last month with Assembly members Evan Low, D-San Jose, Akilah Weber, D-San Diego, and Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, as co-authors.

“We are now in a new and welcome chapter in this pandemic, with the virus receding for the moment,” Wicks said in a statement Tuesday. “This provides for us the opportunity to work more collaboratively with labor and employers to address concerns raised by the bill.”

Wicks said the bill was also withdrawn due to opposition from law enforcement and public safety unions, and expressed hope that they would continue working with state officials to ensure the state’s police and fire department employees get vaccinated.

State employees, teachers and health care workers are already required under state health guidance to prove their vaccination status or provide a valid religious or medical exemption.

Wicks, Law, Weber and Aguiar-Curry are all members of the legislature’s COVID-19 vaccine work group, along with Sens. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, Dr. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, and Josh Newman, D-Fullerton.

The legislators formed the work group in January in an effort to work with medical experts to determine the best ways to encourage state residents to get vaccinated against COVID and combat misinformation about the safety and efficacy of the available COVID vaccines.

“Vaccines, and vaccine requirements, remain a critical tool for moving from pandemic to endemic,” Wicks said. “That work is still needed, and it could still ensure that millions more Californians become vaccinated.”

As of Wednesday, 74.5 percent of state residents age 5 and up have completed their initial vaccination series. Another 9.4 percent have received at least one dose.

Did this Wicks idiot from Oakland (low IQ ghetto) even know that the SCOTUS ruled that the federal OSHA workplace mandate was ruled unconstitutional? The reason that the regime tried to use OSHA was because they knew that a general employer mandate would be illegal on its face. LoL!

Wage Slave March 31, 2022 - 5:42 PM - 5:42 PM

The ruling stated that the feds did not historically have the latitude to enact the mandate, and ruled it unconstitutional on that basis. The states historically have had that latitude. I would like to think this would get challenged and overturned too, but that is less certain.

Yippie!
The Covid viruses has calmed down as it had mutated.
Less people having to seek strong medical help.
We can live and move forward with life.
Not everyone will agree with my thinking, but that’s O.K.

Buffy needs a clue that not all people in California are Berkeley cat ladies.

Awesome news.

Worry Warts! Such extremism even suggesting a bill like this should get them booted out of office this fall at the ballot box. Maybe they realized that but it’s too late. Maybe we should look into legislators pharmaceutical stock holdings! 😁

This for an illness with a 99.95% survival rate if you contract it at all. This whole pandemic was ~90% psychological coercion in an attempt to control the citizens like they are school children and they the hall monitors. And of that 74.5%, how many are not returning for “seconds”?

Here again is the article from Bloomberg about people who haven’t seemed to contracted covid at all and what might be learned from that.

Does anyone genuinely think this bill is dead?

It’s on hold until the new “variant” shows up near end of summer/early fall and they reimpose lockdowns, masks, and restrictions. They’ll probably say you can’t cast a vote in person unless you’re “vaccinated”.

And people will still vote 70% democrat. Vote for the party that has had a super majority in California for years and continues to make things worse.

Californians are suicidal maniacs.

“Does anyone genuinely think this bill is dead?”

My thoughts exactly. Overlords will definitely try again at some point. They will not be happy until they control your body from head to toe. I see citizens being held down and forcibly jabbed at some point in the (not so distant) future.

Agree 100%. They are waiting for the elections. God help us if Newscum “wins” again. You ain’t seen nothin yet!

It’s been over 2 years now to flatten the curve. Anybody that wants to live in fear is welcome to but it should be a choice not mandated. We have seen the results & lockdowns, masking or any of the so called preventative measures had little to no effect. Gavin Newsum & his mandates saved nobody except his own private interest. Karen Michoff & Buffy Wicks both need to go kick rocks, they have proven they are horrible power hungry self serving people that have no business serving in public office representing people.

Interesting timing, as the Dems are going to get their tooshies handed to them during the Midterm elections…

This is exactly the kind of insanity that drove us out of California! I do not even want to return for a short visit. California used to be a bastion of freedom but has become the opening chapter of a dystopian novel. Good luck!

Like the 1984 novel “War Day” by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka? It was supposed to be made into a movie but never happened.

Smoke n mirrors…
.
If enacted, the law would have been deemed unConstitutional anyway like Biden’s mandate for the same.

Bruh March 31, 2022 - 2:37 PM - 2:37 PM

They don’t care. They’ll let the law go into effect and get challenged in the courts. They’ll fight it tooth and nail and drag it out until 2 years later it’s deemed unconstitutional but by that time the damage has been done.

If lawmakers pass a law that is struck down as unconstitutional they should be held personally liable for any and all damages as a result and possibly criminal charges depending on the bill. That’s a little extreme in my opinion, but I don’t see any other way to stop these ghouls from passing laws they know they shouldn’t be passing.

Anon March 31, 2022 - 2:26 PM - 2:26 PM

The Bill will show up again.
They will just keep bringing the bill up until they win. They did the same thing with gay marriage, even though the Voted NO.

Darn

Garbear March 31, 2022 - 7:32 PM - 7:32 PM

There are many other bills the legislature is working on Koven. Such as anybody 12 or older do not need their parents permission to get the vaccine. Covid is dead in Contra Costa County. They are currently an average of 68 cases a day, and then Concord there’s only a little over six cases in day.
The federal mask mandate for public transportation including airlines is expected to be lifted by April 18, thank goodness

CountryGal April 1, 2022 - 2:17 AM - 2:17 AM

Correction: Healthcare workers, first responders, and state employees are required to get vaccinated ir provide an exemption.
Teachers are absolutely NOT required to get the vaccine.
Teachers unions love Grusom so he’s not requiring it.
Either way, don’t think that this is the end of this bill.
It is being put on pause, it’s not being thrown out completely.
They might even find a way to slip it in another bill.
Most employers in CA require you to be vaccinated so I don’t see a difference.
This state is unlivable and I hope it sinks.

Jobs are still gonna do what jobs are gonna do, their lawyers wont let go of the power…..some jobs are still requiring it and or the swab, by a flunky who sticks a q tip up your nose and then “where does it go and where are the results reported to?” seriously…HIPPA went out the window on everything. I want to know what workers have HIV, Herpes, active TB..yet they are protected and much more virulent.

Living the Dream April 4, 2022 - 5:17 PM - 5:17 PM

What a joke this bill was. SCOTUS already ruled that this was illegal. Wicks, Weiner, Pan are all part of the CCP. They dropped the bill because the 90% of Americans that live in the middle politically are going to punish the dems already for the incompetence on issues like: inflation, Ukraine, Gas Prices, defund the police, and the list goes on and on. There is a red wave coming in November…hold on!
